I’m already looking forward to a certain book that’s being released this spring. It’s titled
Attentat auf Arkon »Assassination on Arkon« and will be published in April 2004 by
HJB. This launches the book edition of the
Centauri cycle , that is to say, the
Atlan miniseries that we published in novella booklet form during the first half of 2003.
This is great for readers who missed that series when it was first published, and this also is a nice opportunity for collectors. I’ve already made room on my own book shelf …
The storyline of the
Centauri cycle features the adventures of
Atlan, the
Arkonide, in the globular stellar cluster Omega Centauri. Within this comparatively isolated part of the
Milky Way galaxy, descendants of the
Lemurans and other races have evolved over ten thousands of years, so that
Atlan encounters a situation previously unknown in the
Milky Way.
Highly experienced
Perry Rhodan authors as
Uwe Anton (who developed the storyline),
Susan Schwartz,
Hubert Haensel,
Hans Kneifel,
Rainer Castor, and
Frank Borsch wrote for the series, and with
Achim Mehnert we heard from a writer who had already garnered some attention with a
Perry Rhodan paperback .
Moreover,
Claudia Kern and
Bernd Frenz made their first contributions to the
Atlan universe, while
Rainer Hanczuk was on the team again as well, on the heels of his participation in the
Traversan miniseries . Furthermore, with
Michael Marcus Thurner’s “
Gefangen im Hypersturm" »Caught in the Hyper Storm«, the
Centauri cycle introduced a newcomer who meanwhile has also successfully worked on other booklet novella series such as
Bad Earth.
All twelve segments of this gripping space opera will be released in three hardcover volumes, four segments per book, with only slight revisions and featuring an expert preface. Each book contains roughly 400 pages and costs 15.90 Euros, thus comparable to the “
Silver Volumes," the official
Perry Rhodan hardcover edition.
As to the timing of the releases,
Erben der Lemurer »Heirs of the Lemurans«, the trilogy’s second volume, will be available in August, and
Finale am Sonnentransmitter »Showdown at the Solar Transmitter« will conclude the series in December. The cover designs have not be finalized yet, and the book titles might still change as well.
In any event, this hardcover series gives the reader a manageable
Atlan cycle that adds an interesting facet to the immortal Arkonide’s life story.
